Friday Morning Thoughts {Snowed-in Style}

Happy Friday!

It's currently 8:19 a.m. (yes, you read that right), and I am the ONLY one awake in our house. We had some wintery weather start up yesterday, so the whole city was in a kerfuffle and husby got off early and didn't have to go in today. Which is awesome, but WHY IS EVERYONE ASLEEP?? I want to go play in the snow!!

So did you watch the Sound of Music remake last night? I did not. But it seemed to be all anyone was talking about on Facebook. I like Carrie Underwood just fine, but I personally LOVE the original movie and just wasn't all that jazzed to see it re-made. But if you watched, how was it? Did it live up to the hype?? We opted to watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation instead. Honestly, it was slated to be the first time I had actually watched the whole thing, all the way through, but wouldn't you know? I fell asleep right after the Christmas tree lit up. Oh well, maybe next year. :)

It's recently come to my attention that I have literally done zero Christmas shopping yet. Yikes! I am so impressed by anyone who can have that list all crossed off by now, but I just don't think I'll ever be one of those people. And honestly, I like to peruse and shop in person rather than online. But that may have to change if I don't get on the ball pretty quick! I really really want to make Evie one of these cute little teepees for the playroom, buuuuut, not sure that's going to happen by Christmas morn.

via

I have professed my love for fleece-lined leggings over on Instagram, and honestly people- you need to get some. They are sooo warm and comfy. And since stretchy pants are currently my bag, I am living in mine. My dilemma comes from finding shirts/tunics to wear said leggings with. I am still 100% on Team Leggings Are Not Pants and think all your lady bit and baubles should be adequately covered (unless, of course, you drop by my house unexpectedly, then all bets are off). Because lets just be honest- only about 2% of the female population can pull off leggings as pants and look even remotely decent. And I'm pretty sure they're all teenagers with no hips or thighs to speak of. ANYWAY, my point/question is- do you have any good places to shop for longer shirts or tunics?? I feel like I look at every store I go into and have the hardest time finding anything decent and/or that isn't 2 sizes too large and muumuu-esque.

I'm going to my friend's annual cookie swap next week and need to come up with 5 DOZEN cookies. I am amazed at that amount every.single.year. Any great cookie recipes I should try?? Because per usual, I will likely be scouring pinterest and hitting up the grocery store the day of the party.

My Christmas decorating has come to a stand-still. I guess that's what happens when you drag your tree out right after Halloween. The stockings are not hung, there's not an ornament in sight or nativity set out anywhere. Maybe today will be the day.

Aaaaannnd, it's now 8:46 and I still haven't heard a peep from around the house, so I'm off to wake up the wee one. Mama's hungry!

Five on Friday {Welcome to the Neighborhood}

1 // The Cleanse // I meant to let you guys know how my little cleanse went. Overall it was fine, but I definitely didn't get an A+ from Gwenny Paltrow. The first day was fine, but let me tell you- that veggie lunch smoothie was not easy to choke down. It wasn't necessarily bad, just, well... green. Very meaty, in a veggie sort of way. It's hard to explain. And the dinner smoothie with the cayenne pepper definitely had a kick to it. It was weird. So by Day 2, I was more than happy to 'cheat' at Bible Study (which happened to meet at Panera that evening). Overall? I would really like to try and commit to a cleanse again sometime. It wasn't all that hard mentally, and I actually felt pretty full most of the time. It's just, you know... I like to EAT!

2 // Where the wild things are // Two days before we closed on our house, Evie and I stopped by, only to be greeted by a little snake in the garage. NOT my cup of tea. But since it was just us, I was all prepared to do what I had to do to get it out of our house. But as soon as I got close to it with a long stick, that thing started wiggling and shaking it's tail and flicking it's tongue. Yeah, I don't think so. Luckily, our contractor was parked down the road, so I called and asked him to help. Then, on our second night at the house, we were woken up around 1 a.m. to the sound of howling coyotes behind our house. At first I thought it was the neighborhood dogs all riled up, but soon it was very clear that that was not the case. Nope, just a pack of wild coyotes, howling away in the backyard. I could hear them running in the field from one end to the other. Also NOT my cup of tea.

3 // Two year molars // Heaven help us. I feel like Evie has been getting these things for.ev.er. It has seriously been a solid month of angst around here and I just feel so bad for my girl. When does it end?? I haven't even seen the top two pop through yet. Oy vey.

4 // Purge // I feel like I took bags of stuff to the Goodwill while I was packing up to move, but here I am ready to do the exact same thing while I unpack. We just have so much stuff! First on my list is hubby's closet. ;) Seriously, though, seeing it all piled up in the garage, waiting to find a nook or cranny to get stuffed into in the house and then forgotten... ugh! Makes me want to just toss it all. I'm trying to go with this feeling, though, and sift through stuff while I feel the urge.

5 // Neighbors // We met a few of our neighbors last night and it was so nice! I'm really excited to meet more and get involved and get to know other families. That is one thing I'm really looking forward to here- other young families and friends to hang out with. The lady I spoke with said that all the young families a few streets over sit out on someone's driveway each night talking while the kids play. I love that. It reminds me so much of our neighborhood growing up, where we did the exact same thing.

Happy Friday!

Five on Friday {Sangria, Sewing & Sassypants}

1 // A girl I went to college with recently started a super cute Etsy store: Syd & Stitch. I LOVE the name and logo. Isn't it adorable!? Go check it out!

2 // Little Miss Independent. Sometimes I still can't believe she's mine. Her sassy-pants personality has come out in full force this past month. We have had more time-outs and trying moments than I can count. More "I can do it mySELF!" and "Evie can do it!" in a day than I care to hear in year. And all signs point to her getting this specific independent gene directly from me. I can remember saying the exact same things and my poor mom responding with "well who needs a mother?" And if I remember it? Well, that means this little 'phase' isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Sigh. But I also love watching her discover that she can do something on her own. Seeing her jump off the ottoman over and over and over... noticing in amazement that she's put together a 24 piece, normal puzzle completely by herself... seeing her determined look as she tries for 5 minutes to buckle her sandals, trying not to care that we're going to be late. Because this independence that she has? It's confidence, pure and simple, and I couldn't be happier that she has it in spades already.

3 // House news! We are officially scheduled to close on both houses in two weeks! YIKES! I am SO super excited and SO super overwhelmed by that thought. The contract was signed on our current house this week, without a hitch. Which is a huge blessing and relief. But a part of me doesn't really think our new house will be done in two weeks. It's mostly there, but there are a number of small things that still need to be done: carpet, tub installation, lighting installation, front door, landscaping, possible countertop switch in the master (bleh), touch-ups, and more. Glad I'm not responsible for all of that! And let's be honest, having another week for me to pack this place up would be amazing.

4 // I feel like my entire house is covered in little tiny threads and fibers and fabric scraps. I'm finishing up some window seat cushions for a client and sewing and working with linen is no joke. SO wrinkly! I love it but I'm about to throw my iron through a window. Also, the maid needs to get on the vacuuming, stat.

5 // Girls Night! I'm heading to dinner with some friends tonight and it's long overdue. I really wish I had a fun new dress to wear and I'm contemplating mixing up some yummy sangria for pre-dinner drinks! YUM!

Have a great weekend!!

friday morning thoughts

1 // So it looks like we actually have a (tentative) closing date on the new house! One month from today. I'm so excited and really want to start getting everything packed up. So far, I packed one big box of toys about 2 months ago, and this morning sealed up a box of my shoes. At this rate, I'll be done in about a century! :)

2 // I've been working on a pair of chairs for a friend and they are thiiiiis close to being done! They're so bright and cheery.

3 // We officially have a budding artist on our hands. A few weeks ago, Evie started drawing faces on her magna-doodle toy (usually Daddy). I was so surprised and amazed. She would ask us to draw all kinds of animals and different people, but I don't think we've ever sat down and really shown her how to draw a face. Actually, as I'm typing this, I think my mom has! Anyway, she's always sure to include daddy's mustache and beard. :) Here's she's doing a perfect rendering of Hans Hippo. I love it. Now I just need to convince her to do a few pieces on actual paper so I can keep them.

4 // Hubby and Evie have been getting lots of sun and pool time this summer. Me? Notsomuch. I'm typically so dark by now! These days if I make it to the pool, you'll find me huddled under a hat,  sunglasses and big umbrella. Oy. I believe this is what's called "turning into your mother". ;) Evie Girl has been loving the pool this year, which I'm so happy about. We practice her swimming and she loves to jump to us off the side of the pool and sometimes off the diving board!

5 // We recently found out that my grandparents and some aunts and a cousin will be visiting in my hometown next month. Evie and I are planning to drive up to see everyone. I'm excited, since we haven't been out of town in a while, and- of course- to see all our family. I know they only really want to see my girl. But that's okay, I know she'll keep everyone entertained and on their toes! Happy Friday!

randoms & a coco & moss discount!

// Loving this Summer Tour of Homes. I always have home decor and interiors on the brain, so I love seeing home tours.

// Evie has really given me a run for the money this past week, in the nap department. She didn't nap last Friday, Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. Cripes! is what I have to say to that! I have been hoping and praying that it's just a growth spurt or something weird and not the actual Dropping of the Nap. Because that is my dreaded fear. Thankfully she slept really well yesterday, but so far today? Babbling coming from that room all afternoon.

// My mom and I have signed up to do an upcoming Saturday Flea Market here in town! If you're local, come out and see us on Saturday, June 22 at the Fairgrounds. We'll have some smaller Lilac Row items and will be focusing on a lot of our jewelry. I just got a bunch of fun new jewelry in and shocker- I want to keep tons of it for myself! I've been thinking about listing some of it on Facebook and letting people buy there, if they want. Any thoughts on this? Does that interest anybody?

// We have been getting a TON of rain and storms this spring. And honestly, I'm loving it. Of course I hate to see all the devastation tornado season can bring, but growing up in the middle of the country, I've always loved this time of year. I love the vibrant colors after a fresh rain, the sound of thunder and heading outside to watch a massive storm roll in. And usually by the first of June we've had ridiculous heat for a month already, so the fact that I have yet to force myself into a swimsuit has been amazing.

// Evie, on the other hand, has put on her cute little swimsuits every day. Swim lessons!! Tomorrow is our last day, so pictures to come.

// And finally, I decided to run a little summer discount on my Etsy shop. Order now through the end of June and get 20% off your order! Perfect time to buy a cute little apron. :)

wednesday morning thoughts

Okay, so, this morning I attempted to do an Xtreme Barre workout video. Just one I came across on On Demand. PEOPLE! That stuff is no joke. My legs were literally shaking about 9 minutes in. I kept looking down at them while I did wonky plies on my tip toes, thinking- are those really my legs shaking? Is this really happening?? It was bizarre. Suffice it to say I did not complete the entire 36 minutes. Oh no. But I will be trying again later this week!

I'm really excited to try these yummy black bean and sweet potato quesadillas tonight. YUM!

The other morning I found a few wayward ants around my kitchen sink. Every spring those dumb, determined little boogers try to cramp my fling open all the windows and let the spring air in style by coming in our kitchen window. SO annoying.

I discovered Hazel & Olive clothing through a friend on Facebook and I am in love! Have you seen it? They have such fun, girly dresses and at really great prices. I wish I was the type of girl who actually "got ready" each day and looked cute and breezy in a pretty dress while trolling the aisles of Target. I can dream, right? I want this and this and this top. And this!

Evie's new favorite word is "sure!" But it sounds more like "sir" when she says it. :) I swear, she said it no less than 96 times yesterday. Love it.

Oh, what else did she say yesterday, you ask? At dinnertime she looked at me and said "I got a lot of energy". Aaaaannnnnddddd that was my cue to head out to Bible study and leave daddy in charge for the night

I feel like I have attempted to store away my winter boots at least 5 times this month, thinking boot weather was over for good. Only to have to dig them out a day or two later. I'M OVER YOU, WINTER!

It's officially garage sale season! I get so excited every time I drive by a big neighborhood and see their 'Neighborhood Garage Sale This Saturday' signs on display. I'm nerdy like that. And neighborhood garage sales are the best. My friend Sarah and I are planning to do one together in a few weeks, so I really need to start going through all of our closets. Time to purge!

randomness

On Monday, Evie started calling hubby DAD. That's not good, folks. DAD = a big kid. I kept correcting her, trying to get her to only call him Daddy.  I remember last year when she started calling me Mommy instead of Mama, and I about had a fit about it. I don't want this girl to ever grow up.

I am trying, trying, trying to get all of these home details figured out and decided. It's not easy! Especially when you have a budget. Give me a million dollars and I'll have a home spec sheet filled out in a quick minute. Today I'm trying to really nail down the lighting, as evidenced by my Pinterest boards.

Is anyone else watching Celebrity Apprentice? We got into it a couple of seasons ago, and it's one of the only shows we watch together. (a couple that vegges out on the couch together, stays together. that's my motto). Anyway, I am SO thrilled that Omarosa is finally gone, and how about that Gary Busey?? He is cra-cray!

Also on the tv front- I am loving The Mindy Project. Hi-larious.

Can I just say that I am SO ready for the end of the skinny jeans era? These hips don't lie and what they've been screaming for quite some time now, is that they need a little bootcut/flare action around the ankles to balance them out. I mean, I sport the skinnies, but it's very clear they're not my (or lots of other peoples! ahem!) most flattering fashion moment.

So we were supposed to get amazing storms overnight and all day today. So far, not much. Kuddos to you, weatherman. Regardless, I think Evie and I will be holed up indoors all day today, since it does look cold out there.

At Evie's dance class yesterday, I was informed that there would be recital coming up. And since this class is of the Mommy & Me variety, yours truly will have to perform with her. Translated, that means the moms will be doing all sorts of ballet moves and coordinated choreography while the 2 year olds run around us on the stage like banshees. I'm reeeeaaaaaly looking forward to it.

Since we'll be in all day, I think the girl and I may stay in our jammies and do some baking. And I'll be drinking my weight in coffee. Sounds good to me! What are you up to today?

friday morning thoughts

These "thoughts" shaped up to be more like random things I thought you should know about, from around the interwebs. Do with that what you will.

Have you guys seen this amazing birth announcement? I think this is hilarious and awesome. This kid is a good sport!
via

We survived potty training last weekend. Praise Jesus. She's still having accidents here and there, but overall things are a success. I am more than ready to start venturing out of the house again. I feel like I've been trapped within a 30 foot radius of that little white throne for an eternity.

Since we've been home all.week.long, I've been catching up on The Bachelor. Are you guys watching? That Tierra has got to go. And yes, I know she's gone by now, but I'm still a week behind. However, Cup of Jo tipped me off to the fact that Tierra's Eyebrow has a Twitter account!! Hilarious! That thing was SERIOUSLY out of control. How do you not see that in the mirror??

via

This post had me spitting my coffee across the room. Did you guys ever wear dickies?? So funny.

And finally, a friend shared this amazing video on Facebook. It's heartbreaking and hopeful. Definitely worth watching. There is just something about babies that has always and will forever rip my heart up. And I now want a Dropbox on my house.

Happy Weekend!

this weekend...

... I've been hard at work on these babies. Finally!

I am this close to finishing the reupholstery portion of the game. Toddler naps and cramped up claw hands keep me taking breaks on the regular. Staple guns are no joke.

But I can't wait to show you the before and after pics soon! Fingers crossed that it will be this week. We all know how I am with self-imposed deadlines. I bought them with the intent of redoing them to sell, buuuuutt... I don't know about that now. They may be sticking around our house for the time being.

Also, be sure to come back tomorrow- I'll be announcing my first ever giveaway on this little blog! Fun fun.

Happy Sunday!

P.S. Who will be watching Downton Abbey with me tonight???

Here's a little bit of what we've been up to, according to my phone...

The Mediterranean joint we chose was out of... wait for it... HUMMUS.

A fun antiquing find we couldn't possibly pass up.

Lounging with Grandpa & the puppies.

Crocheting 101.

Some sweet V Day goods at Lilac Row.

Riding home with the cool kids.

My latest knit creation: a cowl/infinity/whatchamacallit scarf.
I am in LOVE with this thing and am thinking about whipping one up to give away later this week. Stay tuned!

some randoms for the end of the world.

I'm still here! Are you? Yeah, I thought so.

I'm eating some yummy homemade chex mix for breakfast. I love making chex mix around the holidays. I don't know why- it isn't exactly a holidayish food. But it's what I do. This batch was kicked up a few notches by the addition of two key ingredients:

1. Locally grown pecans from a friend's pecan farm, aka all the pecan trees growing on their land. YUM.

2. Pretzel M&M's. Yesterday, Evie was rummaging around in hubby's nightstand, as she's prone to do, pulling out and applying his chapstick over and over and over. And over. I finally came in the room to make sure she put it back and shut the drawer and discovered a bag of these chocolate delights. I angrily snatched them up, thinking for sure they were from last Christmas, when I Santa put them in his stocking. It wouldn't be the first time he hid some treat away and forgot about it, so I tore that bag open and dumped some in my afternoon snack. Bonus- they weren't stale! Then a few minutes later, he gets home from work and asks "what the heck!?" Apparently they weren't from last year... he had purchased them for my stocking. This year. Oops.

Evie is still working through this nasty cold. Poor baby. Nights are the worst. But I just pulled out one of her birthday gifts- a little wooden fishy puzzle and it made her very happy. Although right now she's methodically going through the house, closing every single door. Sister has a plan.

A few days ago she finally noticed all of the presents under the Christmas tree. I wasn't sure if I should put them out or not, since she's hip to presents and what they mean, now. She got very excited and wanted to open them all, naturally. "What about this one! What about this one, mommy?? How about that one!" :) She wasn't a happy camper when I tried to explain the whole waiting until Christmas concept.

Are you done Christmas shopping? Surely everyone else in the world but me is done. I tried to finish up yesterday while Evie was at Grammy's, but that last person on my list just wasn't happening. So I'll have to venture out today... Ugh.

Okay, what is up with Elf not being on tv at all this month?? Has anyone seen it? I feel like they're doing it on purpose or something. I'm dying to watch it.

Did I tell you guys I'm not working anymore? Yep, no more "real" job. This week was my first at home (well, I've always been at home, but you know what I mean).. no verdict yet, since we've had the sickies this week, which changes the normal dynamic. We'll see! No plans to send out my resume or apply for anything at this point, just hoping to dedicate more time to Lilac Row. And my girl. And the housework. Bleeergggh on that last one.

Merry Christmas weekend!

Thursday, December 6, 2012

some randoms.

Am I the last one on earth to find out that Prince William and Kate are expecting??? I have to tell you- I don't know why, but I'm so excited for them. I just like them. Her, especially. She seems so nice and genuine and all of those dumb magazine articles made it seem like she was desperate for a baby, so I'm happy for her. Here's hoping the baby gets her genes in the looks department. :o)

I have been LOVING my Cozy Fireside scentsy the past few weeks. It seriously smells SO GOOD. It smells cozy and warm and spicy and holiday-ish and like you're locked inside, bundled up by the fire with a blizzard outside. Just like that.

I am feeling a blog layout change coming...

I am really hoping to start beefing up Lilac Row. It's been such a fun side job and creative outlet. I think it's time to start setting some goals for myself (business-wise), be more purposeful and really see what we can do. I so enjoy all of my projects and that it allows me to do so many different things. I get bored doing the same thing over and over.. no surprise. :) I need to share some of my recent projects with you guys- hopefully this week. OH! And come Like the Lilac Row Facebook page!

I really want/need to organize my Pinterest boards. They're a hot mess.

Yesterday I turned on the holiday music and added a little festiveness to a wall off our kitchen. I love sending and receiving holiday cards this time of year and wanted a cute place to display them. You know- other than the side of the fridge. :) It makes me happy every time I walk by!

I keep going back and forth in my mind about (re)decorating our house lately. We keep contemplating moving, and if we are going to move, I don't really want to make any other changes or paint or anything. But then I get the itch to switch something up. Like, every other day. It's such a part of me and I always want to make our home into a place for us. Cozy and inviting and pretty. So this in-between stuff if getting to me. In all likelihood, I'll pound more than a few more nails into the walls before we ever leave this place. :)

I really wish I was hosting a Christmas party! Not going to happen, but a friend of mine and I used to have one each year, back when we were single. I really want to start that up again and make it a yearly tradition. Wouldn't that be fun?

Happy Thursday!

Friday Morning Thoughts

A little throwback for your Friday morning...

I am SO behind on blogging. And just feeling absent. But really, I'm okay with that. There are so many other things to focus on right now. I do, however, miss catching up on some of my favorite blogs to read. Some day when I'm lying on the beach somewhere, I'll get all caught up, right??

My job has changed/expanded a bit from simply writing for our clients to also writing DIY tutorials each week. I had mixed thoughts about this, initially, but it's been fun. And I've actually completed more Pinterest projects in the past month than the past year! Not all are projects I would normally have done on my own, but maybe some time I'll share some of them here.

Evie is going to be an owl for Halloween! She totally has the "Hooo hooo" part down. :) I made her costume and still need to figure out some sort of mask/headgear for her to wear. More pictures to come!

I am loving and craving coffee and warm drinks all.day.long. I had given it up for a while, but while in Chicago and with this cooler weather, I got sucked right back in. If a salted caramel latte is wrong, I don't want to be right.

I am up to my eyeballs in last minute projects and finishing details for Vintage Market Days: A Holiday Affair, which is in 2 short weeks! We are beyond excited about it. It's going to be so much bigger and better than the June event (which was awesome but brutally hot). I can't wait! I've even started setting my alarm to try to get up early and get a few things done in the morning before Evie gets up. If you know me at all (and how much I love my sleep), that should say something. I hope to see some of you there! It won't disappoint.

And because of all my last-minute painting, sewing, etc.. this is why I don't ever bother with manicures. Super cute, eh?

Groupon is offering a great deal right now- $10 for an 8x8 Shutterfly book. I haven't made any photo books lately, but I love to do them as Christmas gifts.

I've been itching to knit or crochet something for a while now. I'm thinking Evie will need some new, cute winter hats! I did finally give in and start crocheting some baby booties after seeing little Hattie sporting some. I've had to tweak my pattern a bit and still need to find cute buttons. But I'm hoping to get a few pairs done to sell at VMD!

I am so seriously behind on planning Evie's birthday party, which is just a month away! We finally settled on the date and I HAVE to start planning. I don't think I'm going to do anything elaborate, but my girl loves her some Mickey Mouse, so I think I'll have to incorporate that somehow. I'm just not huge on themes, so I'll have to figure it out. When my brother turned 2, he had a Mickey Mouse party, complete with a Mickey head pinata that my mom made herself! I just remember some picture of his tiny little self swinging a bat at Mickey's head in the backyard. We briefly talked about doing that, but something seems a little off to me about bashing Mickey's head in. I don't think my sensitive girl would be on board for that. :)

We went to the pumpkin patch, oh, two weeks ago, and I just edited some of the pics. So I'll be sharing those soon! Evie was hilarious and loved every minute of it.

I just saw this little knit cowl on Pinterest. GAH! I'm dying of the cuteness! See!? This is why I need to knit! Evie must have one!

Happy Friday!

on my list.

After a long weekend away, I always feel a little discombobulated. Do you? Laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning up.. all the things I feel like I just did before we left. Somehow they are back at the top of the list again. How does that happen?

Anyway. We had a nice, relaxing time with my family this weekend. A few events and get-togethers on the schedule, but still plenty of down time to just lay around and relax. A lot of times, I feel very rushed when we go to my hometown. There are a lot of people we want to see and spend time with, and it's easy to get stretched a bit too thin. Especially with a wee one.

Speaking of my girl- she was in rare form. Such a sweet, content little traveler (hallelujah!), and life of each and every party. I'm not sure if there's something in the water up there, or if she was just reveling in all of the excitement and extra people around, but she was literally bouncing off the walls most nights.

I'm just so happy that she dives right in and makes herself comfortable. There is very little apprehension or lag time when we visit. She makes herself right at home!

But back to my list... here are a few things I need to get accomplished in the near future. Wish me luck!

  • Sign up for the fall Strolling Moms
  • Grandparents Day cards/gifts (see what we made last year, here)
  • Meal plan & shop for the week
  • Return some items to TJ Maxx
  • Sign Evie up for gymnastics (finally!)
  • Start working on reupholstering a pair of Bergere chairs (don't worry- I'll share pics!)
  • Pack up clothes Evie's grown out of :(
  • Write an update in her baby book
  • Organize my craft room/office space. Oh, and the garage.
  • CLEAN
  • Make & share another fun Evie video
  • Do a little fall clothing shopping (I'd like to bump this up to the top of the list!)
  • Organize/plan for the holiday Vintage Market Days

SO. What's on your list these days?  Does a long weekend make you feel all itchy and behind like it does me?

wedding photo booth fun.

this & that

Just a few randoms today... We had a great weekend. On Saturday, we celebrated baby Emmy and it was such an adorable shower! Afterward, a few friends and I went to this big consignment sale and proceeded to shop ourselves cross-eyed. I get pre-sale tickets to these things from work, otherwise I wouldn't bother. Yes, there are some good deals to be found, but it's ca-razeeee in there. I was thinking, though, how much fun the day was. It's really not often that I get to spend time with my girlfriends (without kiddos) for any length of time, doing things we enjoy. Sad, really. And, I think, just the time of life right now, with young families. But I do miss it, and want to make a point to do it more often.

I can hardly handle the boot adorable-ness.

This girl continues to rock my socks off with her cuteness and spunk. She had a cold all last week, on top of cutting her 4 incisors. Not fun. But she's been a trooper and I've been trying to soak in all the extra cuddles and middle of the night rocking sessions. I've also been attempting to catch some of her antics on video lately, and will hopefully share those soon. The way she sings her ABC's cracks me up.

I started reading Sense and Sensibility last night. It's been, like, 20 years since I've read it. I thought I needed a little prose in my life. :) Definitely not a book you can read with the tv on in the background. I'm going to have to use my whole brain to catch all the nuance!

Yesterday morning I was laying in bed, waking up and starting to read my Bible, when I heard what I was certain was a gunshot. In my room. Seriously. I popped up and looked around but didn't see anything funny. No smoke or holes in the wall (!). I checked the drawer where we keep our gun, and it hadn't gone off. It was SO bizarre. I honestly have no other ideas what it could have been.

I'm watching Parks & Recreation episodes while I type today.. it makes me super excited for the new season coming up. It's so funny. Any shows you're looking forward to watching this year?
